If you talk about the elders during the airing of grievances portion they could get you for apostacy. And the metal pole has some sort of pagan origin, you can be sure.

Could a JW be DF for celebrating Festivus?
by Stealth inafter all, it's a secular holiday not a religious holiday.. if i was still an active member, i think i would start a new tradition of celebrating festivus.
most likely no jws would come, but that's okay, it's a famiily holiday anyway.. what grounds would the elders have to disfellowship you?.

I am going to pioneer after the holidays!
by snakeface inyes, you heard right.. as you know, most christian organizations publish and distribute little tracts with their gospel message.
well they also make some that expose the lies of the wt, and explain how it is a cult.
even if people are not interested in the "gospel message" in these tracts, the tracts do a good job exposing the wt as a cult.. now, those of you who are now agnostic or athiests or just non-religious, please keep reading, to understand what i plan to do.... i am expecting to receive $$ for christmas.

Can you imagine being a JW and going out in service, and EVERY house has already been contacted with one of these tracts?
Or the majority of them will treat you with the same level of indifference that they treat actual JWs when you show up uninvited to their homes.

What laws are on your side (in the U.S.) so you can leave quietly
by oppostate inin another topic "just quit quietly - the law is on your side" there was a lot of discussion about how to leave quietly without getting tagged publicly as "no longer a jw".
here are some legal cases that could be used to show support for leaving quietly.. you have to first send a letter saying you're leaving that specific congregation, and that you don't want them to keep records of you.. if the boe says anything against you here are some court cases that make precedent for bringing a suit against them:.
baugh v. thomas (1970).

Can anyone tell me any narrative of having successfully avoided Baptism while being raised JW?
by SonoftheTrinity ini just worry for my stepkids about their future that way..

I managed to avoid getting baptized until I was 19. Had I been able to put it off a couple more years, when my doubts started to surface, I probably would have avoided it altogether. Unfortunately, there was an aggressive, utrazealous elder in my congregation who wouldn't let that happen.

Just curious. Why do you imply having a belief in Jesus is flawed as well as the Witnesses' beliefs? I'm sorta in the middle between Atheism and Christianity. Haven't really decided which of the two is right.
The implication is that the entire bible is bogus, not just the JWs interpretation of it. What's also bogus is anyone's claims to "know the real Jesus".

Wives who complain about their husbands work schedule but refuse to get a job

she brings it up constantly about how they would do this or that but he has to work that saturday.
i think she should get a job and then he could find a lower paying 9 to 5 job..

We had a CO back in the 80's who used to make married sisters who held jobs feel guilty for working. He always said that they didn't trust in Jehovah enough to provide. Never mind the fact that my mom working enabled our family to get off government assistance.

Yes. By all means, replace one fundamentally flawed belief system with your own.

About the ten plagues in Egypt
by runForever inalot of people are saying god is cruel for killing the firstborns and animals and people in the ten plagues.
but didn't god achieve his goal of making nations and people be in fear of him?.
-

Why does a perfect God, who has the mental ability to create the universe and everything in it, need for us to live in fear of him, kill our first born child, etc?
Because in spite of his omnipotence, he's still incredibly insecure.

Jesus to run for record 26th term in office !
by Simon insources within heaven have revealed to us that jesus h christ intends to run for what would become his 26th term in office as ruler of the galaxy.. since his first term began in 1914 he's been unopposed in office despite, many say, failing to deliver on any of his pre-election promises.
they point to promises of "an end to death and eternal life for all" as being unrealistic given the funding given to healthcare as just one of many examples.. critics say the elections themselves are rigged and in fact no one even gets to case a vote because his father simply declares him the winner.
they believe that have proof that this was planned for some time in what many are calling "biblegate" and point to basic un standardsfor democracy which haven't been lived up to.. many of his supporters thought that his 16th term beginning in 1975 would define his rulership but they lost faith when his party later blamed them for having "unrealistic expectations".. "i did originally support him", says one man who didn't want to be identified for fear of reprisals, "but i'm starting to grow old and now think i'll die without ever seeing any of the changes his promised to enact".. we tried to contact the heaven party to ask when he planned to do any of the things he promised.

This is why I believe in term limits.

We Are A "Vast Army"
by mrquik ini know many have suffered to varying degrees at the hands of this cult.
one of the first casualties is our self- esteem.
our awakening takes us all on different paths.

Well, Old Man Jaracz was pretty paranoid about a "Vast Apostate Army" poised to strike at the heart of the Org.
Well that's one thing they got right. Once in 140 years isn't bad, I guess.
